How to Download and Install WhatsApp on Android 4.0.4 Devices

WhatsApp for Android 4.0.4: What You Need to Know

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, with over two billion users across different platforms. It allows you to send text messages, voice messages, photos, videos, documents, and more to your contacts for free using an internet connection.

However, if you are using an Android device that runs on version 4.0.4 or older, you may soon lose access to WhatsApp and its features. Starting from November 1, 2021, WhatsApp will stop supporting these devices and you will not be able to use the app anymore.

So what can you do if you are affected by this change? How can you check your Android version, back up your chat history, transfer your data to a new device, or switch to another messaging app? In this article, we will answer these questions and provide you with some useful tips on how to stay safe and secure on WhatsApp and other apps.

How to Check Your Android Version

The first thing you need to do is to check what Android version your device is running on. This will help you determine if you need to update your device, get a new device, or switch to another messaging app.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Go to Settings on your device and tap on About Phone.

  • Tap on Software Information and look for the Android Version number.

  • Compare your Android version with the minimum requirement of WhatsApp , which is Android 4.1 or higher.

  • If your Android version is lower than 4.1, you have three options:

  • Update your device to a newer Android version, if possible. You can check for updates by going to Settings > System > System Update and tapping on Check for Update.

  • Get a new device that supports WhatsApp and meets the minimum requirements. You can find a list of compatible devices on the WhatsApp website.

  • Switch to another messaging app that works on your device and has similar features to WhatsApp. We will discuss some of the alternatives later in this article.

How to Back Up Your WhatsApp Chat History

If you decide to update your device, get a new device, or switch to another app, you may want to back up your WhatsApp chat history first. This will allow you to keep your conversations, media, and documents safe and restore them later on a different device or app.

  • Go to WhatsApp on your device and tap on Settings.

  • Tap on Chats and then on Chat Backup.

  • Tap on Back Up Now to create a backup of your chat history on Google Drive. You can also choose a backup frequency, such as daily, weekly, or monthly, to automatically back up your chats.

  • Select a Google account where you want to save your backup. If you don't have one, you can create one by tapping on Add Account.

  • Select a network option for your backup, such as Wi-Fi or cellular data. Note that using cellular data may incur additional charges from your provider.

  • To restore your chat history on a new device or a different app, you need to use the same phone number and Google account that you used for the backup. You also need to have enough space on your device and Google Drive to restore the backup.

  • If you are using a new device, you need to install WhatsApp and verify your phone number. Then, you will see a prompt to restore your backup from Google Drive. Tap on Restore and wait for the restoration process to complete.

  • If you are switching to another app, such as Signal or Telegram, you need to install the app and create an account. Then, you need to follow the instructions on the app to import your chat history from WhatsApp. For example, Signal has a feature called Transfer from Android Device, which allows you to scan a QR code and transfer your chats from WhatsApp. Telegram has a feature called Migrate Chats from WhatsApp, which allows you to select the chats you want to move from WhatsApp.

  • Verify that your chats, media, and contacts are transferred successfully and delete the backup from Google Drive if you don't need it anymore.

How to Transfer Your WhatsApp Data to a New Device

If you are getting a new device that supports WhatsApp and meets the minimum requirements, you can transfer your WhatsApp data from your old device to your new device using Google Drive or a local backup.

A local backup is a copy of your chat history that is stored on your device's internal storage or SD card. It is different from a Google Drive backup, which is stored online and requires an internet connection.

To transfer your WhatsApp data using Google Drive, you can follow the steps in the previous section on how to back up and restore your chat history.

To transfer your WhatsApp data using a local backup, you can follow these steps:

  • Create a local backup of your chat history on your old device by going to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup. Make sure that the option Include Videos is turned on if you want to transfer your videos as well.

  • Connect your old device to your computer using a USB cable and open the folder where your local backup is stored. The folder should be named /sdcard/WhatsApp/. If you don't see this folder, it may be in another location, such as /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/.

  • Copy the entire folder from your old device to your computer.

  • Eject your old device from your computer and connect your new device to your computer using a USB cable and open the folder where you want to store your local backup. The folder should be named /sdcard/WhatsApp/ or /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/.

  • Paste the entire folder from your computer to your new device.

  • Eject your new device from your computer and install WhatsApp on it. Verify your phone number and tap on Restore when prompted. Wait for the restoration process to complete.

  • Verify that your chats, media, and contacts are transferred successfully and delete the local backup from your old device if you don't need it anymore.

How to Switch to Another Messaging App

If you are not able to update your device, get a new device, or use WhatsApp on your device, you may want to switch to another messaging app that works on your device and has similar features to WhatsApp.

There are many messaging apps available on the market, but some of the most popular ones are Signal and Telegram. Both of these apps offer end-to-end encryption, group chats, voice and video calls, stickers, and more. They also allow you to import your chat history from WhatsApp, as we mentioned in the previous section.

Here are the steps you need to follow to switch to another messaging app:

  • Choose a suitable alternative app based on your preferences and needs. You can compare the features, security, privacy, and compatibility of different apps online or by reading reviews from other users.

  • Install the app on your device and create an account. You may need to provide your phone number, email address, or a username and password for the app.

  • Invite your contacts to join the app and start chatting with them. You can use the app's invite feature or share a link to the app with your contacts via SMS, email, or social media.

  • If you want to keep your chat history from WhatsApp, you can import it to the new app using the methods we described in the previous section.

If you want to delete your WhatsApp account and data, you can go to WhatsApp > <strong
